Smoke is a theme suitable for high legibility endeavors that incorporate large or dense text areas. It provides a sharply contrasted background for clarity of text but does not neglect the visual instead opting for stunning highlights and splashes of color. Each entry also contains a space for an image or a user avatar which makes this especially useful for blogs that feature multiple authors or content that can be visually differentiated. The green and red areas of smoke add a dash of color to the layout without impeding the use or readability of the page in the slightest.

The combination of yellow and black is a reliable attention getter from its use in classic taxi cab design to our natural tendency to pay close attention to a hovering bumble bee. Yellow is no exception to this natural human tendency as it grabs the eye and keeps it adhered to the page. The contrast is striking but also readable as the sharp areas of color contrast are confined to the header and the content areas of this theme are tastefully reduced to a less demanding grey and black combination.

Road delivers the appearance of movement and of a three dimensional platform for your blog content. Smooth gradients solidify the background for visual appeal without taking the focus away from the content. The fine variations between grey tones and the yellow highlights gives the content a cohesiveness difficult to achieve with disparate color arrangements. Redball is a visually stunning arrangement in the two column mode. It also gives you the popular tabbed interface for common pages above the sidebar. While the default color scheme of red, grey, and yellow is vibrant and eye catching it can also be juggled around and manipulated when you download a copy of its source PSD from the link above.

Purple is, well, purple but it also contains some more unique design elements. The wrap around header and sidebar give the page a more unified appearance that looks less like the result of blogging software and more like a product of desktop publishing software. The encapsulation of comments and ‘email this post’ functions into buttons only enhances this perception.
